A Kodak Brownie camera, backyard bird feeder and makeshift blind – together, these three items from Robert’s childhood in Western Pennsylvania helped shape the direction this young man’s life would ultimately follow. When others were out riding bikes and playing baseball, Robert admits to “spending hours in that blind happily snapping away.Fortunately, for those today who appreciate nature photography, his early interest took root and grew into a lifelong passion that has fostered a satisfying and very successful career.

With hundreds of publication credits to his name – including work printed in National Geographic,Outdoor Life and Audubon, among others – Robert (with his wife Lorri, also a talented photographer) had more than 650 images published in 47 countries last year alone. As further kudos, he was recently awarded a first place and received a “Highly Honored” mention in the 2004 Nature’s Best Photography Awards competition. With ongoing photography commissions across the globe, various writing assignments and overseeing a photo library containing more than 200,000 images, Robert’s life is full indeed.

The gifted shooter believes a great wildlife photo must, “clearly define the intended subject, eliminate visual clutter and, most importantly, tell the story of how the subject lives.”

On the ICF philosophy: “I love the concept. I think our nation’s ranchlands need to be conserved from the plague of urban sprawl. Hopefully, the ideas planted by the ICF will help.”
