The Pro-Tour of Nature Photography is a series of professional photography tournaments, each one limited to a particular geographic region and designed to initiate and support a developing Private Lands Nature Photo Tourism industry. Known for its natural beauty and biodiversity, the Texas Hill Country was selected to "host" the first Pro-Tour competition. This land of bubbling springs, sparkling rivers and sweeping vistas is deceptively fragile. With its winding country roads and breathtaking fields of spring wildflowers, the Hill Country is particularly vulnerable to ever-increasing pressure for subdividing and development - a situation that threatens the complex ecosystems.
The world's richest wildlife photo tournament, the inaguaral 2006 Pro-Tour of Nature Photography took place the month of April and awarded $160,000 in total prize money at an awards celebration in Fredericksburg, Texas in June, 2006. Behind the scenes, a lot was happening on the ranches! No one can fully appreciate the time and patience it takes to get an award-winning nature photograph! Each team that participated in the Pro-Tour deserves a salute of appreciate for the time and effort contricuted to achieve beautiful photography portfolios.
