Red Creek Nature Ranch has recently converted from a 95-year-old family working ranch to a property that focuses on the environment, seeking to provide a variety of experiences for the nature tourist. Descendants of Heinrich and Katheriene Kothmann, who were among the first 120 German settlers to make the rugged trip by covered wagon from Indianola on Matagorda Bay to New Braunfels and then onward to Fredericksburg, the family members have long acted as stewards for the land they hold dear.

The 1,000-acre ranch is located near the headwaters of Red Creek outside of Junction, Kimble County, Texas at the northwestern edge of the Edwards Plateau. The property offers richly diverse ecosystems. Pristine springs in "the land of living waters" seep from the limestone outcroppings to feed into Red Creek, a tributary to the Llano River. Native pecan and sycamore trees surround a grassy meadow where prehistoric native Americans once baked plant foods in rocky pits. The dramatic contrast of hills and valleys, canyons and savannahs of Red Creek Nature Ranch offers exceptional opportunities for photographing wildlife, plants and scenery; as well as bird watching, hiking, biking and relaxing in a secluded, country environment.
