Joe
McDonald has been photographing wildlife and nature for almost 40
years, beginning as a junior high school student. He has been selling
images for almost 35 years, financing his hobby through high school
with sales to the National Wildlife Federation's film library. Joe
has been a full-time wildlife photographer since 1983. He has written
several books, including The Wildlife Photographer's Field Manual,
The New Complete Guide to Wildlife Photography and Photographing
on Safari and he has produced one educational video entitled Photographing
on Safari.
Joe
and his wife, Mary Ann, conduct several photographic and Photoshop
workshops from their home-studio at Hoot Hollow. They also run photographic
tours and safaris to a variety of US and foreign destinations. They
usually spend at least 12 weeks a year in East Africa, and regularly
photograph on three continents a year.
Joe
is a columnist for Outdoor Photographer magazine and for the web
magazines, photosafaris.com and naturephotography.com. He is a regular
contributor of images to most natural history publications.
Joe
has appeared on several television programs promoting wildlife photography,
including Nature's Best Photography, a series airing on the Outdoor
Life Network (OLN).
He
is a Second Grand Prize winner in the Valley Land Fund Wildlife
Photo Contest.
Joe
is perhaps best known for his high-speed flash expertise and for
his action photography.
