Rolf
Nussbaumer has loved nature for his entire life. He was born and
raised in the northeastern part of Switzerland. Since his youth,
Rolf has won several major bird counts in Switzerland and has been
especially active in various nature organizations. He has taught
bird-identifying classes and led many excursions.
At
the age of 17, his love of nature photography began. He started
photographing butterflies. He quickly began capturing his favorite
subjects - BIRDS - on film. Rolf enjoys photographing all nature,
including mammals, insects, reptiles, and landscapes. He believes
the main issue in nature photography is showing people what they
usually would not see. He also shoots macro photography and medium-format
landscape images.
In
2002, Rolf won first grand prize in The Valley Land Fund's Wildlife
Photo Contest in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. In 2003, Rolf was
a grand prizewinner in the Coastal Bend Land Trust's Wildlife Photo
Contest, also in Texas. He photographs have appeared in Texas Parks
& Wildlife, Birder's Digest, and numerous other U.S. and European
publications.
Rolf
currently lives in central Texas with his wife, Karen, and their
greyhound, Scout.
