A
freelance photographer since 1975, Tom Ulrich is highly acclaimed
around the world for his nature photography skills. Many of his
350,000+ transparencies have been used by numerous magazines and
other publications, including National Wildlife, Audubon, Outdoor
Oklahoma, Sierra, American Hunter, Ranger Rick, Alaska, National
Geographic, Montana Outdoors, Life and many others. Tom is also
responsible for publishing seven nature books, Mammals of the
Canadian Rockies, Birds of the Canadian Rockies, Mammals of the
Northern Rockies, Birds of the Northern Rockies, Once Upon a Frame,
Photo Pantanal, and Mt. Reynolds: The Story.
Tom
has been the recipient of many prestigious awards including the
Mammal Behaviour category in the 1987 International Wildlife Photographer
of the Year, winner of the 1979 and 1981 National Wildlife Photo
Contest (finalist in 1978 and 1980), Grand Prize Winner of the 1996
National Wildbird Photo Contest, and the 1987, 1988, 1991 and 1994
Outdoor Writers Scavenger Hunt Photo Contest. In 2005, Tom received
the North American Nature Photographers Association Fellow Award.
For
many years Tom has been leading tours to remote parts of the world,
such as Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica,
and East Africa as well as to the greatest aviary spectacle known
to man - Pantanal, Brazil. Additionally, Tom is busy conducting
photography seminars and workshops around the country and lecturing
at numerous institutions including The Johns Hopkins University,
Oklahoma State University, Southern Illinois University, New Mexico
State University, University of Illinois, Florida State University,
Mississippi State University, Indiana University, and Texas Tech
University.
Tom
taught biological sciences at Fairfield Community High School from
1971-1975 and also taught Photography, Local Flora, Botany, Zoology,
General Biology, Biochemistry, and Anatomy & Physiology at Frontier
Community College.
Tom
holds a B.A. degree in Biological Sciences from Southern Illinois
