"Gold-fronted Woodpecker"
I waited several days in a blind at a waterhole hoping a colorful bird would land on the perch next to the brilliant Opuntia blossoms. When the male gold-fronted woodpecker landed right where I wanted and began eating the pollen it was more than I had ever hoped for.
"Diamondback striking Green Jay"
Just after I photographed a green jay at a waterhole it flew to another log where it was struck by a western diamondback. I managed to photograph the complete sequence from just after the strike to the swallowing of the jay.
"Mountain Gorilla family in wild"
One of my most memorable experiences was photographing this mountain gorilla family in the Virungas Mountains of Zaire. Sadly, not long after this picture was taken, the male silverback was killed by poachers.
