Intigued by the creation and maintenance of suitable wildlife habitat, Albert B. Alkek, self-made oil millionaire, rancher, civic leader and philanthropist, imported animals from around the world for the ranch he purchased in 1958. Today the 9,200-acre Flying A Ranch, located in Bandera and Medina counties just south of Bandera, Texas, operates a successful cattle business in conjunction with a model program for hunters and wildlife enthusiasts.
Flying A Ranch features the warm and welcoming Lodge on San Julian Creek, a first class bed and breakfast facility for visitors to the Texas Hill Country. A limestone lodge and cottages with wide Texas-style covered porches offer ample opportunity to sit, relax and enjoy the outdoors. In the evenings, a stone fire-pit provides a friendly campfire setting to take the chill off the cool Hill Country dusk. Guests can enjoy the flowing San Julian Creek or take a wildlife tour and learn about the animals, birds and habitats on the ranch. Guided hunts, fishing and photography opportunities are also available.
