Sam Mason has been involved in wildlife conservation since the formation of the first Valley Land Fund (VLF) Wildlife Photo Contest in 1994. He served as Assistant Director for the VLF events in 2000 and 2002.
As ICF's Executive Director from 2003 to 2006, Sam served a myriad of functions, from publicity to logistics, corresponding with photographers, landowners, sponsors and the media. IN 2006, he coordinated ICF's first Pro-Tour of Nature Photography in the Texas Hill Country, which awarded $160,000 in prize money to winning photographer-landowner teams, and helped to coordinate the production of ICF's first Pro-Tour photo book. Additionally, he supervised ICF membership, finances, and community outreach programs.
Early readings in Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, and growing up in a natural setting in Texas, led Sam to appreciate nature as an elemental part of humanity. As such, he greatly values the work of ICF in preserving wildlife habitat through positive economic methods while communicating the compelling beauty of the natural world through a visual language that everyone can understand.
In addition to providing technical services for ICF, Sam Mason currently works as a freelance photographer and videographer in Texas. He holds a bachelors degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia. Various work experiences include video production, music production, arts promotion, and office management.
