Tacubaya Ranch Wildlife

Tacubaya Ranch Wildlife is a 3200 acre ranch located in Brooks County that has recently opened its gates to the public for the purpose of wildlife photography, birding and experiences with nature. Whether you are a novice birder, a professional photographer, or a city slicker looking for some great outdoors experiences, Tacubaya Ranch Wildlife is the place for you!

Originally a land grant from the King of Spain in 1740 to the Garcia family, Tacubaya has been a successful cattle ranch for most of its existence. Today, Tacubaya continues to serve as a grazing land for cattle and provides oil and minerals to various companies; however, the main focus is wildlife conservation.

Photo Opportunities

Tacubaya Ranch Wildlife is currently developing several photo sites that will assist any level of photographer in getting a great shot. Visit the Raptor Blind where you can observe anything from Caracara eating a meal to Turkey Vultures having a snack. If you choose, visit one of the photo blinds designed to take advantage of the morning and evening light with their own water source to attract birds, reptiles and mammals to eat and drink. There is also a walking trail complete with “Rest Stops” to watch birds, butterflies and other wildlife eat and bathe. Whether you are interested in insects, birds, mammals, butterflies or one of the 45 different species of native plants, there are plenty of opportunities for a well-rounded photography experience at Tacubaya Ranch Wildlife.

There is overnight lodging available at La Casita Blanca, a three bedroom, three bath house with accommodations for up to 6 people, with A/C, Wi-Fi, a living room complete with TV and DVD player, a full kitchen and for the Bar-B-Qing enthusiast, an outdoor grilling area. For a special treat, there is a Turkey Roost located behind La Casita Blanca where dozens of turkeys can be observed “Flying to Bed” nightly from the comforts of the backyard! And if that isn’t enough, the dark country sky offers a beautiful star gazing experience every clear night.

In addition to La Casita Blanca we have an efficiency apartment by the main ranch house. The apartment can accommodate up to 4 people. It is complete with A/C, a bathroom with shower and its own kitchenette stocked with utensils and condiments, as well as outdoor grilling for your cooking pleasure. The apartment’s best amenity is the use of the patio at the main house where you can relax and watch the birds bathing in the pond. As the night falls, you can walk out to the uncovered patio, lie on a lounger and get lost in the stars above.
